Which format should you choose?

  • Website or online shop → WebP (75-85% quality). The smallest files and faster loading.
  • Email, printing, official forms → JPG. Everyone can open it.
  • Logo, icon, transparent graphic for editing → PNG.

As input, the converter accepts every format your browser can display - besides JPG, PNG and WebP also GIF, BMP, ICO, SVG and, in newer browsers, AVIF. iPhone HEIC files currently open only in Safari; in other browsers use the HEIC to JPG converter.

What happens to the file during conversion?

ConversionFile sizeTransparency
JPG → WebPusually 25-35% smallernone in source
PNG → WebPoften several times smallerkept
PNG → JPG3-10× smaller (photos)replaced with background colour
WebP → JPGusually largerreplaced with background colour

In every case the pixel dimensions stay the same. Converting to a lossy format (JPG, WebP) uses the slider quality - 85% by default. Saving to PNG is lossless relative to the decoded image but cannot recover detail lost earlier. Each file shows its size before and after, plus a warning if the result is bigger than the original. If you only want a smaller file in the same format, use the image compressor.

Typical mistakes are converting back and forth between lossy formats (JPG → WebP → JPG), saving simple graphics and screenshots with text as low-quality JPG, and expecting PNG to “sharpen” a photo. The best result always comes from converting the original file, in one step, straight to the target format.

Privacy

Conversion runs entirely in your browser (Canvas API). Files are never sent to a server, so you can safely convert private photos, scans and company graphics. Saving to a new format also strips EXIF metadata, including GPS coordinates.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I convert?

+
Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO, SVG and AVIF (depending on your browser). Output: JPG, PNG and WebP.

How do I convert iPhone HEIC to JPG?

+
Open this page in Safari on iPhone or Mac - Safari can read HEIC, so conversion to JPG works. Other browsers cannot decode HEIC here; use the dedicated HEIC to JPG converter instead.

Does conversion remove EXIF data?

+
Yes. The image is saved from scratch, so metadata such as camera model, date and GPS location is not copied to the new file.

Is there a file or size limit?

+
There are no artificial limits. The only constraint is your device memory - very large images (above roughly 100 MP) may not fit in a phone’s memory.

Does converting an animated GIF keep the animation?

+
No. The first frame is saved as a static image.
