How to convert WebP to JPG
- 1.
Add WebP files
Drop .webp files onto the box above or choose them from your device.
- 2.
Choose quality and background
A quality of 85-90% keeps the detail. If the WebP has transparency, pick a background colour (white by default).
- 3.
Download JPG
Download the files one by one or all together as a ZIP.
Why do images from the web save as WebP?
Most large websites - online shops, news sites, Google Images - serve pictures as WebP because they are smaller and load faster. When you save such an image, you get a .webp file. The trouble starts when you want to use it outside the browser: some older graphics programs, document editors, upload forms and print shops do not accept WebP. The fix is converting to JPG, a format supported practically everywhere since 1992.
What happens to transparency?
JPG does not support transparency. If the WebP file has a transparent background (for example a logo or a cut-out product), the transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose - white by default. When you need to keep transparency, use the WebP to PNG converter instead.
Quality and file size
The JPG will usually be larger than the source WebP - that is normal, because JPG compresses less efficiently. Converting cannot restore detail lost in the WebP, but at 85-95% quality it adds no visible loss. If you need a small file, lower the quality to 75-80%.
Settings for typical uses
| What do you need the JPG for? | Quality | Background |
|---|---|---|
| Printing, photo lab, archive | 90-95% | white |
| Email attachment, messenger | 80-85% | white |
| Upload form with a size limit (e.g. 1-2 MB) | 70-80% | white |
| Transparent logo for a dark page | 90% | the page colour, e.g. #111111 |
Pick the background colour from the palette or type a HEX code. It only matters when the WebP contains transparent pixels - a regular photo converts without any colour change. If the result is still too big for a form, shrink its dimensions with the image resizer or use the compressor. The resolution does not change during conversion.
Each file keeps the original name with a .jpg extension, so it is easy to find next to the source WebP. When converting many files, you can download all results in one ZIP - handy when you have saved a whole gallery from a shop or listings site.
Privacy
Conversion runs entirely in your browser (Canvas API). Files are never sent to a server, so you can safely convert private photos, scans and company graphics. Saving to a new format also strips EXIF metadata, including GPS coordinates.
