Filling in a form that has no fields

Many official and business forms are plain PDFs without interactive fields, so nothing can be typed into them in a regular viewer. This tool places content directly on the page, so you can fill in any form:

  • Text - name, address, reference number; Enter starts a new line.
  • Date - today's date as DD.MM.YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD or written out (October 11, 2026); change it with the date picker.
  • ✓ and ✗ - for yes/no boxes; a click centres the mark on the spot you clicked.

Typical form text is 10-12 pt; check marks fit most boxes at 10-14 pt. Each element can be moved, resized or removed later in the list of added elements, before you save.

A white cover is not redaction

A white rectangle only hides content visually - it does not remove it from the file. The text underneath can still be selected, copied and found with search, and anyone with a PDF editor can move or delete the rectangle. So:

  • use covers for cosmetic fixes, such as hiding an old date before typing a new one;
  • do not use them to hide personal data - ID numbers, bank details, addresses - in documents you send to others.

If data must really disappear, convert the pages to images with PDF to JPG, paint over the data, and rebuild the PDF from the images. Then the text underneath physically no longer exists.

Fonts and quality

Text is saved as real PDF text (not an image) in DejaVu Sans, embedded as a subset containing only the characters you used. Accented letters (é, ü, ñ, ł), Cyrillic, Greek and the ✓ ✗ marks display correctly on any computer, and the file usually grows by only tens of kilobytes. The preview uses the same font, so the text lands exactly where you see it. The rest of the document is not re-compressed or rasterised.

Limitations

  • The tool adds content - it cannot edit the document's existing text. To “correct” a word, cover it with a white rectangle and type the new one on top (remembering that the old text stays in the file).
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first; encrypted files cannot be edited in the browser.
  • Added text becomes fixed page content, not an editable form field.

To combine the filled form with other documents, use merge PDF. For captions on photos, try add text to image.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type on a PDF for free?

+
Load the file, choose “Text”, click the spot on the page and type in the list below the preview. Then click “Save PDF”. No sign-up and no watermark.

How do I tick a box in a PDF form?

+
Choose ✓ or ✗ and click the centre of the box. Set the size in the “Size (pt)” field - 10-14 pt fits most boxes.

Can I add text with accents or other alphabets?

+
Yes. Text is saved in DejaVu Sans, which covers Latin accents, Cyrillic and Greek, so it displays the same on every device.

Does the white rectangle remove text?

+
No. It only covers it; the text remains in the file and can be copied. It is not enough to hide personal data.

Can I edit existing text in a PDF?

+
Not directly. You can cover the old fragment with a white rectangle and type new text on top.

Is my file uploaded?

+
No. Editing and saving happen entirely in your browser.
