How is the date of Easter calculated?

Easter is the first Sunday after the first spring full moon, meaning the first full moon on or after 21 March. The calculation uses the Church's table of moon phases instead of astronomical observation, so the date does not always match the actual full moon.

As a result, Easter falls between 22 March and 25 April. In recent decades the earliest was 23 March 2008, and the latest will be 25 April 2038. The tool calculates the date with the Gregorian algorithm (Meeus, Jones and Butcher) for the years 1583-4099.

Which days around Easter are days off in Poland?

The Act of 18 January 1951 on days free from work lists the first and second day of Easter and the first day of Pentecost. These are Easter Sunday, Easter Monday (Lany Poniedziałek) and Pentecost Sunday. Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday fall on Sundays, so Easter Monday is the only one that gives you a weekday off.

Good Friday and Ash Wednesday are normal working days, and shops are open until 2 pm on Holy Saturday. In 2026 the break runs from Saturday 4 to Monday 6 April.   • Ash Wednesday - 46 days before,
  • Palm Sunday - 7 days before,
  • Pentecost Sunday - 49 days after,
