How to count the days between two dates
- 1.
Pick the start date
Today is filled in by default.
- 2.
Pick the end date
If the end date is earlier, the calculator swaps the dates automatically and tells you.
- 3.
Decide whether to include the end date
Turn it on when counting the length of a trip, a holiday or an event in which both the first and last day count.
- 4.
Read the result
You see the days, years-months-days, weeks, working days, weekend and holiday days, full months and hours.
Including or excluding the end date
By default the calculator returns the difference between the dates, the way you would count nights in a hotel: from 1 May to 3 May is 2 days. Turn on "Include the end date" when you count days of an event in which both the first and last day matter, such as a holiday from 1 to 3 May, which lasts 3 days. The difference is always exactly one day.
Examples:
- 11 October 2026 to 25 December 2026: 75 days, which is 10 weeks and 5 days, or 2 months and 14 days,
- 1 June to 31 August 2026 with the end date included: 92 days of summer,
- the whole of 2026 (1 January to 31 December, inclusive): 365 days, of which 253 are working days in Poland.
Years, months and days
The "years, months, days" result counts whole calendar months, just like age: from 15 January to 20 March is 2 months and 5 days. Because months have 28 to 31 days, the same number of days can mean a different number of months depending on the dates. Use the day count when a contract or rule is expressed in days, and the months result when it is expressed in months.
Hours are simply days multiplied by 24. They ignore daylight saving time changes, which is what you want for calendar calculations.
Working days and public holidays
Working days are Monday to Friday excluding public holidays in Poland, where this site is based. If you work in another country, treat this figure as an approximation and use the plain day count. For a detailed breakdown of working days and hours, or to find a date a set number of business days ahead, use the working days calculator. For a full list of Polish holidays, see Poland public holidays and long weekends.
Typical uses
- How many days until a holiday, wedding, exam or due date,
- how many days have passed since an event, such as quitting smoking or starting a job,
- the length of a contract, rental, trial or warranty period,
- how many days you stayed in a country (for visa and residence rules that count days),
- the length of a loan or deposit for interest calculations.
To find the date that falls a given number of days from a start date, use the add days to a date calculator. For a live countdown with seconds, use the countdown timer.
