How to scan a QR code online
- 1.
Choose the source
Upload a photo or screenshot of the code (or paste it with Ctrl+V), or switch to “From camera”.
- 2.
Scan
A photo is read instantly. With the camera, point it at the code - scanning stops once the code is recognised.
- 3.
Check the content
You will see the type of code (link, Wi-Fi, contact, bank transfer, text) and its data in a readable form.
- 4.
Decide what to do
Copy the data or, after reading the warning, open the link.
What the scanner can read
Decoding happens in your browser. If the browser has a built-in code detector (BarcodeDetector), the tool uses it; otherwise it falls back to the jsQR library, which tries the image at several scales. The content is recognised and split into clear fields:
- Links - with domain analysis and warnings,
- Wi-Fi - network name, password and security type,
- vCard contacts - name, company, phone, email, address,
- Polish bank transfer QR codes (ZBP standard) - recipient, account, amount in PLN and transfer title,
- Email, SMS, phone, GPS location and plain text.
Scan safely - watch out for quishing
“Quishing” is QR phishing: a fake code stuck on a parking meter, printed on a flyer or sent by email leads to a page that steals logins or payments. This scanner never opens links automatically. It shows the target domain and warns you when the address is not encrypted (http), is a bare IP number, contains international characters (xn--) or has login details placed before the domain. Addresses such as javascript: or data: do not get an open button at all. Always check that the domain is the one you expect, and never log in to your bank through a QR link - type the address yourself.
How the code type is detected
A QR code simply stores text - its beginning decides what a phone does with it. The scanner checks the content against these patterns:
| Content starts with | Detected type | What you see |
|---|---|---|
WIFI: | Wi-Fi network | network name, password, security, hidden network |
BEGIN:VCARD | contact | name, company, phone, email, address |
NIP|PL|account|… | Polish bank transfer (ZBP) | recipient, account, amount in PLN, title, tax ID |
mailto:, tel:, SMSTO: | email, phone, SMS | address or number and message |
geo: | location | coordinates and a Google Maps button |
https:// and other schemes | link | domain and warnings |
Anything else is shown as plain text. For bank transfers, an amount stored in grosz (e.g. 012345) is converted to złoty (123.45 PLN) - compare it with your invoice before approving the payment in your banking app. You can upload several files at once; one code is read from each image.
Why will my code not scan?
- The photo is blurry or overexposed, or the code is tiny in the frame - crop the picture down to the code.
- The code is damaged or covered beyond what its error correction can fix.
- The code has no “quiet zone” - the light margin around it.
- The image is huge - the tool scales it down, but a fresh close-up photo sometimes helps.
- It is not a QR code but another kind, such as an EAN barcode - this scanner reads QR codes only.
